I'm trying to upgrade a Compaq Presario 7360 - 500MHz AMD K6 II system from Win98 to Win2000 or WinXP. However, the Microsoft Win2000 HCL's haven't been too helpful in determining if this system is compatable with them.
Question #1: Does anyone know if this system is compatable with Win2000, or WinXP? Or know of another way to find out? Thanx

I run that same CPU in a Asus mother board. When I installed Windows 2000 I had to go into the BIOS and disable the CPU cache in order for the OS to install. If I didn't disable the cache on the processor I would get a blue screen with a NTkernal error. The install took a long time to complete but After the installation I renabled everything I disabled and it worked fine. I've also succesfully installed Windows 2000 on a Compaq Presario 5200 with a PII 333MHZ.
I'll make a note regarding disabling the CPU cache. But out of curiosity, aside from giving a blue screen w/ a NTkernel error, why does the CPU cache adversely affect the OS installation?
I don't believe that the Bios inside Presario computers allow you to disable the CPU cache.

Perhaps run the chkupgrd.exe util - it's on the W2K CD. It will deliver a report on what is and isn't OK for W2K on this system. If bios, drivers etc. need an update it should indicate that; then go get the updates?.
