Subject: ipconfig- no tcp/ip OS: w2000 CPU/Ram: pIII 128

Comment: this is my second time bringing this up. i have a laptop, pIII, w2000 service pack 1. it has an intergrated nic, a 3com fe575 lan cardbus. i'm trying to configure it to receive an ip address from a dhcp server. the nic doesn't show up as an adapter when i try ipconfig, and ipconfig /release makes the computer say no adapters have tcp/ip bound to them. the sysadmin was here and couldn't figure it out. i've tried reinstalling the nic (by uninstalling both pcmcia adapters and having windows find them upon boot). of course i've tried adding network connection (over and over). there's no connection showing in the netwrok and dial-up folder, so i can't tinker with that. i've mucked about with arp and route, commands i found online, but don't know what i'm doing. none of the little network lights by the jack on the side of the laptop turn on at any point. any ideas?

Reply: (edit)No link light is a sure sign of a hardware problem. Since the OS isn't recognizing your card, I'd start with that. Check Device Manager to make sure the card is functioning properly. Post back with what you find out or if you need help getting to, or understanding, Device Manager. Mick

Reply: (edit)If the card is OK, is it configured to use DHCP, or is it configured with a static address? If static, try changing. Grisner

Reply: (edit)the card shows up in device manager as an pcmcia, right? if that's the case, then it's listed as functioning properly. grisner, where can i check/change it's configuration? that's really the crux of my problem.

Reply: (edit)-when you release your IP's, make sure you RENEW them also; make sure your network cables are plugged & working fine -make sure DHCP server has available IP's; if not, delete any UNUSED or EXPIRED one's - be carefuly when working w/ those though
