hello all if any of you could help i would be very grateful, ok ive just bought a new computer P4 2a gig, 512 ddr, gigabyte 8IEXP mother board and im having issues every time i install another Ethernet card (for the network) it detects the card then goes to "Completing the upgrade Device driver wizard" stops and its says "Ethernet controller, an error occurred during the installation of the device, the data is invalid." ok i assumed it could be a faulty network card so i swapped it over for another (different brand) and the same error occurred. i even tried swapping pci slots and it still wont install the driver what should i do???

Hmmm, Try to reinstall the drivers. Perhaps you're having a IRQ conflict. Anyway, try the drivers, and see what happen...

I Have the same problem. The only way to fix it is to format and reinstall Windows but this time with the network adapter in the PC.
I hope there is a way to fix it without format again! There is no IRQ conflit because I have just one PCI slot used on 6 avaible.

Its not the first time I meet this problem. The last time it was with the installation of my wheel steering drivers on windows 2000 again.

Plz mail me if you find how fix it!

I have the same problem trying to install scsi adapters in my machine.

I have tried 2 - a Tekram dc315u and an Advansys abp930u. Both give the same error.

My system specs are:

MSI KT3ULTRA-ARU motherboard (via KT333 chipset)
AMD Athlon XP 1900+
Winfast Geforce 4 MX 440
256 Mb Kingmax RAM

I suspect the problem may be due to upgrading the system without re-installing windows. I just stuck the hard disk (with Windows already installed) in my new system and detected all the new hardware.

I'll see if a Windows repair works. I don't particularly want to reinstall the whole lot because it works really well except for this.

Could you guys list your system components and whether you have done a similar upgrade?

Thanks, Dan.

Hmmmm,

looks like somebody has found a hack for fixing this problem.

Goto:

Not quite sure how the problem starts but I'm thinking now that it is something to do with Win2k SP1/SP2 as everyone I've seen with this problem has upgraded to these.

Hope this helps.

Dan.
