Hi,
I have Win 2000 Professional Edition. The system was booting fine for 2 days. however, from today I got "Invalid BOOT.INI, booting from C:\WINNT". The system still boots fine but I would ideally like to get rid of it. Any help ?

You should determine how the file arrived in that location (what software did you install that put it there). I would move it to another directory since it's not required by 2000. Reading the file in notepad may help determine what may have put it there.

Try to find what's wrong in your boot.ini file, since you still got your system up, use notepad.
the normal boot.ini file is look like this :
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect
timeout is use when you have multiple system to boot, if the time elapsed and you still make no choice, the system will boot the default OSmulti(X) X= 0,1,2,...
if you choose to use IDE drive or SCSI drive with BIOS enable, this line always show :
multi(X), but if you use SCSI drive with BIOS disable the line will show : SCSI(X)
disk(X) X=0 if multi(..)
rdisk(X) X=0 if scsi(..)multi() & scsi() told us in which controller system files (boot partition) is.
rdisk() & disk() told us which HD
partition(X) X=1,2,3,...
show where the partition that contain boot partition.boot.ini file contain ARC (advanced RISC computing) address, which pointed to the system files or boot partition.
make sure that this address is pointed to the right partition.
