Howdy, suddenly my internet is having problems. Im still connected, but no pages will disply (this page cannot be displayed and in the top blue bar of the window it says 'res://c:/windows/system32/shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm' i suspect messenger is causing this. it seems to have started to happen when i upgraded to version 5.0 so i deleted that and reinstalled V4.6 but all is still crapOla, any ideas how to get everything working again?

hi natasha, how bout them daugs?
the error says either the DNS (Domain Name Server) can't find the name or you can't find the DNA itself. At this point can you ping your ISP? Start / Run / Command and type Ping www. or .net or whatever.
You should see 4 attempts that include transfer times if it is successful. If it times out then you've lost your initial connection. (this insidentally would cause the error you spoke of)
Does it work if you just remove messenger?

Ummm........I didnt understand a word you said (Im blonde) lol, but yeah everything works fine once I remove messenger I tried to reinstall it, even different versions but everything still goes crap when its there. I do need this program so its not just a matter of not using it, help?

OK. some info.
Which messinger are you using, AOL, MSN, YaHoo?When you said everything works file, did that include your browser?
Who's your ISP?
and to clarify Ping:
Pinging is a network test that sends a short message to someplace on a network and recieving a response that returns certain statistics. You can ping a machine on your local (home maybe) network or it could be somewhere on the internet.
What it tells you is how much data was sent, weather or not it was successful and how long it took.
You Ping from the command prompt.
Start / Run / Command and a window opens with Microsoft's copywrite information and probably "C:\>" the DOS Prompt.an example of pinging the internet.
You type in c:\>ping www.microsoft.com
you get:
Pinging www.microsoft.com [207.46.134.155] with 32 bytes of data:Reply from 207.46.134.155: bytes=32 time=62ms TTL=250
Reply from 207.46.134.155: bytes=32 time=47ms TTL=250
Reply from 207.46.134.155: bytes=32 time=42ms TTL=250
Reply from 207.46.134.155: bytes=32 time=60ms TTL=250Ping statistics for 207.46.134.155:
Packets: Sent=4, Received=4, Lost=0 (0% loss)
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum=42ms, Maximum=62ms, Average=53msYou could also ping this way and get the same results:
c:\>ping 207.46.134.155
If it's a local network ping you would need to know the target ip address or its computer name like "mailserver"Anyway it varifies a working connection without complex software(browser) getting in the way.
IF it returns "Request timed out" then something's blocking your request like a firewall or there's no network connection. I could go on but hopefully you see my point.

oh so thats a ping huh. lol. well sometimes it works and some times it says 'request timed out'. i swear it is msn messenger doin it. it seems that everytime i try to sign in, everything stops working. at this point, bytes are being sent but are not being recived. if i have my fire wall on at this point it will still be stoping intrusions but, its like im disconnected from the internet. fire wall or no firewall, it still does this so i dont think its causing it. oh and i keep getting sent in a circle when trying to post a msg here
