Comment: Hi, I have 2 NICs on my computer. I use one to access the internet (thru a DSL connection), and the other is connected to a hub which serves a laptop and a ME workstation. I had shared the internet conenction, so that the laptop and the ME m/c could be online. It worked perfectly for a month. But all of a sudden I started getting an error saying that the network cable is unplugged on the NIC that connects to the hub. I have tried every option, even connecting the laptop directly to the second NIC. But I still get the "Network Cable Unplugged" message constantly. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Reply: (edit)Most likely a physical problem. Try with a different working cable. SOmetimes the cable is faulty. Else - use the Network and select - Disable then Enable. Also try to reinstall the NIC card drivers. But 90% it's the faulty cable. (try switching betwe your ME and lap).

Reply: (edit)I agree with denzuke76, 90% of the time it is the cable or drivers. But after you try replacing the cable if it still does not work check the Media Type. Right click on Network Places then right click on local area connections and go to properties. Click the confugure button under the nic card and select the Advanced tab. when you select media type make sure it is on the correct speed and duplex. It's probably best to go with auto select. If the setting is wrong it will give a Network Cable Unplugged error.

Reply: (edit)You should look into buying a 4 or 8 port router from Best buy or a computer store. 1. You wouldn't need a hub at all, for now. 2. You wouldn't need internet connection sharing, because all computers and laptop could access the internet at the same time. I have a 4port router that I purchased for about $50. I think it would be a wise choice and and much less things to manage. Matt

Reply: (edit)How to do it (I figured out the missing piece: 1.You have 2 NIC's installed. One is the internet the other your local network (connected to other PC's in your home) 2.Right click on the NIC going to the internet and choose properties. There should be a tab called sharing. Check the internet sharing box. 3. Step 2 automatically gave your local network NIC the IP address of 192.168.0.1. Now you need to give the IP 192.168.0.2 to you other PC on the network. Also you MUST provide the DNS settings manually to your second PC as well as make its gateway 192.168.0.1 note: To get the DNS settings from your first PC, type: ipconfig /all in the command line on your first PC. note2: The Internet Connection Sharing service on your first PC MUST be started. That should do it.
