I am unable to have ICS between my XP (host) and 2K (client). LAN works but not ICS. No 3rd party firewalls. Also turned off the firewall that comes w windows. ping is ok between the 2 computers.
what's the problem??

One presumes you "have" enabled the option in XP?

is the M$-KB all about it...

is another

Problem comes up if lan and internet are both in the same subnet. What is the ip of the two lan interfaces on the host computer?
Imagine the power if you knew how to internet search

thanks for the replies. I have managed to "solve" the problem by chance.
the problem arose after i installed service pack 2. i ping both host and client and there was no problem. i even ping www.google.com from the client and it was working, which meant that ICS was ok. however, the "cannot find server" and "DNS error" msgs kept coming up. I got fed up and uninstalled SP2 - voila - the internet worked again.
the strange thing is, i wenr into control panel>system, and I saw that the OS was still WIN2K SP2, which I was sure I "uninstalled" form the " Add/REmove Program". This part, I am still puzzled, but nonetheless happy to get my internet back.
Related problems - i tried to install SP3 and SP4 (which is the latest) - and both times, the computer hung during the "Starting WINDOWS" screen with the zebra line at the bottom. I still cannot solve this, which is why I am staying put w my current OS config.
