Hi there. I have a problem with trying to start PWS ver5.0 (IIS ver5.0) on Win 2K Pro, Dell C600 Latitude. It refuses to start and run as a service. Tracing the problem back to trying to start the IIS as a service has led me to trying to start Internet Services Manager (ISM) (C:\WINNT\system32\inetsvr\inetmgr.exe). This results in a dialog message saying the following. "MMC snap-in failed to initalise. Name: not-available. CSLID: {A841B6C2-7577-11DO-BB1F-OOAOC922E79C}". The ISM does start but incompletely.
Also when I start the Microsoft Management Console (MMC), the Web Server node is not visable. In the registry settings ( HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft Management Console\Recent File List\) the iis.msc (a Microsoft Common Console Document) exists. This suggest that MMC has registered the ISM. Also ISM does not show up independantly in the Administrators Tools under the Control Panel.
I would like some advice as to diagnosing what is wrong and how I can start IIS under Win2k Pro. Please help. You can email me directly with your answer.
