Internet is not working but Ping is

Hi I am trying to go on internet through IE5. I was able to ping any website fine from command prompt but when try to access from IE5 I get error message stating Can not find server. Please help Thanks

I have IE 5.5 on my 98SE computer and I frequently encounter web sites that do not display properly because it is that version - e.g. Asus, ATI. I recommend you upgrade to IE 6.

Last time I Re-installed Win2000 which comes with IE5 I forgot and installed Yahoo toolbar before upgrading to IE6. IE crashed everytime I attempted access. That is when I remembered I hadn't upgraded.
