Comment:

the function "open in new window" in the 'right clik' context menu in internet explorer has no response. IE was and is doing this in IE 5 and IE 6. Thanks to anyone who could provide a solution. :)

There may be many causes for this specific problem in IE. You may also experience unability to open links from mails stored in Outlook Express or to print webpages.
Since I see your problem is repeating no matter you upgraded it to IE6, I suggest watching in \WINNT\SYSTEM32 for MSHTML.* files. There should be at least two: MSHTML.DLL and MSHTML.TLB. The .TLB file should be around 1.5Mb in size (may vary, of course, but it should be a big file). If it takes, for example, only 60Kb, it is wrong. If this is your case, you'll need to copy it from another machine and then go to the command prompt and type the following:

cd \winnt\system32
regsvr32 mshtml.dll

If it succeeds, try opening new windows in IE. If it fails, you can download for free an utility named Dependency Walker which tells you which files a specific library depends on. Run it, load the MSHTML.DLL file and it will tell you if any other needed file is missing. If you happen to see there's not a needed file and later you get it, you must run the previous commands again.

Hope this helps!

Andrés
