Hey well i think i may have a tough one here. My desktop computer at home is hooked up with Verizon DSL on a router that is then connect to my modom. Up until around 3 days ago, i hadn't had any problems surfing the web, but know whenever i open internet explorer it gives me a cannot find server error, and the page says The page cannot be displayed. The wierd thing is that my dad on his laptop can connect to the internet and everything works fine. He is going through the router as well. i've called verizon a number of times, but they aren't any help. I'm running Internet Explorar 6 SP1. I'm thinking it may be the router. If u have two computers on a router do u have to setup the settings for the router on both computers or just one? Because i have only set the settings up on my dad's laptop, not the desktop, which is the one that does not work. The router is a netgear. That's about all i know. i hope someone knows the answer thx.

Have you ruled out some sort of Spyware/Adware or browser hijack? If not, I would start there by going to www.lavasoftusa.com and downloading Ad-Aware. Scan your system and then submit your results to www.lavasoftsupport.com before removing anything. They should be able to advise you on the following steps to procede.

Austinpctech gives good advice. In addition you should also check with
1. Spybot Search and Destroy
www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=download
2. Cwshredder
www.majorgeeks.com/downloads31.html
AND the CoolWWWSearch removel tool above it.

Download and immediately update each and run them. Remove what Spybot marks in RED.

Then download Spywareblaster
www.wilderssecurity.com/spywareblaster.html
and update it - this program will run in the background and will keep much mal/spy/adware off your system (it does not need manual running).

ALL are free BUT ALL will need regular checks for update - weekly at least.
