Subject: INTERNET CONNECTION SHARING & MAIL SHARING |
Comment: I HAVE A CLIENT USING WIN2K PROF. OTHER APPLICATIONS ON THEIR SYSTEM FORCES THEM TO HAVE FIXED IP ADDRESSES FOR WORKSTATIONS. INT CONNECTION SHARING REQUIRES THEM TO NOT HAVE FIXED IP ADDRESSES. IS THERE ANY WORKAROUND FOR THIS PROBLEM? CAN ONE FIND A FREE PROGRAM THAT READS MAIL AND DISTRIBUTES IT AMONG THE WORKSTATIONS ON THE SYSTEM? REGARDS

Reply: (edit)ICS does not require you to have a fixed IP address, I know b/c I run it at home on a network of fixed IPs. However, it does require that the ICS computer (or the one dialing to the internet) have an ip address of 192.168.0.1 subnet 255.255.255.0. At any rate, it seems to work o.k. and much better than it did in win98. However, if you would like a free proxy server that will work with any ip address go to www.sambar.com. it is free for a non-professional license and will allow you to share one connection, though much more configuration is needed than to setup ICS. Hope that helps
