Internal vs. external DNS

Inside my network, I have my web server. We have address translation going on in the firewall, so I use one IP number interally for the website, and another IP number externally for the site. We have 2 DNS servers internally, both NT 4.0. All of the workstations (2000, NT, and 98) are set to get DHCP and the DNS servers from a server. The 200 machines intermittently lose their reference to the web site via the internal IP, and go to the external IP. To fix it we have to release and renew the DHCP license. When someone is in the middle of editing text for the site, this is problematic. Any ideas?

Hi Kathryn, I have a suggestion. -- In the search slot at the top of this page type your lead-in (internal vs. external DNS) and then select Win 2000. There are several knowledgable people that have answered questions on this subject. Many of the more in-the-know have also included their email address. I am sure if this is a true emergency they will be happy to help.
If you wait for an answer it may be a loooong wait.
good luck <>OEW<>

i have this exact same problem, except that my internal DHCP server is a FreeBSD unix box ( also running NATD behind a firewall ). all my win2k machines are suffering the same problem when trying to get to our mail server via an internal DNS name. our NT and win9x clients have never had this problem.
