I have a similar problem. I tried to uninstall Belkin software and reinstall it. However, whenever I try to uninstall from Add/remove hardware menu, the installshield wizard pops up then disappears without reaching a set-up menu and without uninstalling the software (it remains in my list of programs). During my first attempt to uninstall, I got a pop-up from my Zonealarm security asking me whether or not I wanted to allow something called 'Invert' run and I clicked no. I wonder if this might be where the problem lies. I have since tried to change the security settings on zonealarm to allow all installshield related programs run but the installshield wizard still disappears after a couple of seconds. Please help as this is very frustrating. Thanks,
Kenny

I find software firewalls to be a pain in the axx. 99% or more of the time it is asking you about something legitimate to Allow, so you are being bothered 99% or more of the time for nothing.
If you connect to the internet through a router you may not need one at all, because the router has a hardware firewall, even default settings will not let most harmful things through, and it blocks very few things most people commonly need to use.Disable ZoneAlarm in it's settings.
Try un-installing the Belkin software.
If you still have problems, go to the Microsoft web site and get the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, download it, install it, run it, then look for an entry for the Belkin software. If you see that, delete the entry. That will use the Windows Installer info to remove all registry entries for the Belkin software, including the Belkin entry in Add/Remove Programs, and probably all the files it installed.
If you don't see an entry for that, try just installing the Belkin software again.
What problem(s) were you having with the Belkin software, and what device is it for?
......
If you insist on using a software firewall....
If you do not know whether you should answer Allow or not, make note of the name of the program, Close the pop up window, and look up the name on the web. If the question has not been answered it will pop up again automatically after a while.

Thanks for your advice but none of the above suggestions have worked. I am trying to reinstall a Belkin G+ wireless USB adaptor. There were no entries for Belkin when I ran windows clean-up utility but it is still present in my list of programs. Add/remove programs still does not remove it and installshield does not install it. I don't know what else to try.

You didn't say what the problem with the Belkin adapter is.
Sometimes when a device is not detected properly, the un-install or install of the software for it does not work properly.
Or, sometimes a USB connected device must be plugged in when you attempt to un-install the software for it.
A well written un-install program will generate an error message about whatever the problem is - one not well written may not.If your problem is the Belkin adapter is not seen, or it is but it doesn't work properly,
you may need to plug it into a different USB port, or you may have an IRQ sharing problem.
See response 3 in this:
http://www.computing.net/answers/wi...Once the computer detects it properly, it could be the un-install and install will work fine.
