Hello.
Can anyone help?
I used to have windows 2000 pro on my PC (AMD K& 800 mhz, motherboard ABIT KA7, 256 megs of RAM, ATI All in Wonder 128- 16 megs of RAM, Maxtor 5400 RPM 60 gigs HDD and so on) but lately when I try to install again windows 2000 pro after formatting the HDD it starts installing itself OK and than after the first reboot it freezes on the blue line in the midle on the bottom and the monitor goes in "Standby" mode and that's it.
I reboot or turn off the PC and again the same. Sometimes the installation software starts converting the FAT system to NTFS (by my request) and freezes again somewhere in the midle.
Has anyone had the same problem.
Thanks in advance -:)

System is W2K compliant? Have you run the W2K util to check your system out? Is the HD W2K compliant (e.g. W2K drivers - if HD = ATA-100?)

There is a hard ware compliance issue, (can't remember the name of it) that you can work around by hitting either the F7 or F8 key during installation...
As soon as you start installing, start hitting those keys...after about a minute you should hear some "beeps"...at that point you should be able to do a normal install...
I know, sounds strange, but I was able to use this technique to load W2K on several older PII-233 to 350 systems last year...
Don;t know why it works...but I found the technique on Microsoft website somewhere...
Sorry I don;t have more...

Hi There !
This is a typical hard disk problem that comes up also during the NT Server 4.0 installation. The problem what I faced was that when the computer booted to NT for the first time and if the hard disk partition was Fat16 on which I was installing NT 4 Server then it would start the convert utility to convert this partition to NTFS on its own even without asking it and after the conversion was finished it would again reboot the computer then again start the same utility to conver the partition to NTFS even though it is NTFS as it already converted but this time after the entire conversion process is over it would resume with the installation and further show no problems. So the only solution to this problem which I succeeded in both Windows NT 4.0 Server and Windows 2000 Professional, Server and Advance Server is that just start the installation procedure from the initial phase by booting the computer from the Windows2k installation cdrom and start installing the Win2k and then when it asks in which partition u want to install the OS first delete all the existing partitions and then create a new partition and install the OS in the new partition and during this time create only one partition as other partitions u can create later using the Disk Manager. And if possible and if u have enough utilities one thing u can do is just remove all the partitions from the hard disk before the installation starts. That's the best practice which I always use if I am formatting a system. And u would result with zero errors in installation. The best utility which I could find was the Seagate Disk Manager which comes with certain type of Seagate Hard Disks. This problem is mainly as there are some problems with the partition on the hard disk due to which the Windows OS whatever u r installing it might be NT 4.0 or 2000 it cant install properly and when the initial phase is completed and the computer tried to boot from the partition where it had installed those files it results into errors. So the best possible is never use existing partitions until and unless u r sure that there are no partition errors on the hard disk. I think so this much is quite enough to solve ur problem and also to make u understand what problem u r having, and if still u have any queries or still u r getting errors u r free to mail me and I would be most happy to answer then , mail me directly on mitulgk@hotmail.com.

Mitul

Hi.
Thanks to all of you for the advices.
I'll try what you tell me to but the main problem is that before Win2K used to work with the same hardware and drivers.
Thanks once more.
