Hello. I want to know how to install windows 2000 if windows xp exist.
since windows xp is in my c drive, I can't boot windows 2000 from CD-ROM.
when I try to run autorun.exe from windows xp cd-rom drive, it says windows 2000 is old OS and can't install.
could you tell me how to install windows 2000 after windows xp was installed?thanks in advance.

From the commandprompt:
%[cdromdrive]%/i386/Winnt32.exe
(%[cdromdrive] is the root of your windows cd-rom)
You can also make a set of boot-floppy's:
Place the Windows-cd in the drive and go to the directory .
there you type at the commandprompt:MAKEBOOT:A
Youn need four empty floppy's.
Follow the on-screen instructions.
With te bootfloppy's you can start the machine and follow the instructions.
(A:\ bust be the first bootdevice in your BIOS-setup).Also you can try to make CDROM the first bootdevice. Not all mainboards can do that and it is not possible if your cdrom is a SCSI-device, connected to a non bootable SCSI-hostcard.

You install W2K from 'outside' the current (newer) OS; i.e. do not attempt the installation via XP.
Boot via the W2K CD (if allowed) or use the 4 W2K setup floppies.
When W2K goes in (after XP) it will (probably...) overwrite/replace the XP mbr - thus disabling access to XP, and allowing access to W2K only.
To recover XP and establish the dual-boot - run XP repair routine (i.e. via a CD boot - not from within W2K). XP will repair will restore the XP mbr, will detect and add W2K to the boot.ini.
Make the ERD for XP before installing W2K; you can then offer this during XP repair/recovery.
Put W2K into its own partition/logical-drive if possible.
This whole routine is very similar to putting '9x/Me in after W2K (or NT3x/4x); '9x/ME will usually overwrite/replace the NT3x/4/W2K mbr...
