Comment:
Just picked up a brand new everything. New case, HD, 256 DDR, AMD Thunderbird 1.3GHz(266), 32MB TNT2 AGP card, on board audio. I boot to Win2kPro CD-ROM. I get a message like this FROM MY BIOS: ```````````````````````````````````````````` Boot from ATAPI CD-ROM:
No Emulation
Press any key to boot from CD-ROM ``````````````````````````````````````````` I get to the initial Win2kPro setup screen After setup inspects my hardware I get this FROM WINDOWS SETUP: ``````````````````````````````````````````` File \$WIN_NT$.~BT\ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded The error code is 4 Setup cannot continue Press any key to continue ````````````````````````````````````````````
I tried to install from floppy and I get a simialar error: File \i386\ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded.... (same as above except different directory)
Does anyone know what is going on here? I even tried to install WIN98 and after setup performs routine check I can't install. I get a "Divide by zero" error.
Some come to my rescue and tell me how to install win2kpro!!! Been at this for 36 hours!!!!!
OK! I went out and bought some new DDR to replace the NEW DDR and that did change anything. I still get the No Emulation error. I'm finding that after 48 hours I'm going to bash this thing to pieces if someone doesn't help me
Okay! Back again. TYPO above. The new DDR DIDN'T CHANGE ANYTHING.
I have part of the solution to my own problem and thought that I would let you all know what i did so far with a long response. First off all I believe that "No Emulation" is not an error but a notification. I believe I was sold the wrong CPU or had improper CPU settings. I had previos BIOS warnings and errors about my CPU External settings(forgot to mention that above). I thought I purchased a 1.333GHz AMD Athlon with 266MHz FSB. CPU chip says 1333 on it but no mention of FSB speed. The BIOS has settings for either 1000MHz or 1333MHz with 100FSB OR 133FSB respectively. Although my PC would not complete setup from the CD-ROM when the CPU was set to 1333MHz. It would only complete setup from the CD-ROM at 1000MHz. Somehow God shined on me in the dark at 1:30am. After setting the CPU to 1000MHz I booted from the CD-ROM. I got the no emulation notification and loaded WIN2kPRO. I got through the entire install. I had some problems though and did yet another fresh install, this time at 1333MHZ!! Flawless Fresh Install! I don't get it?!?! I know that it makes sense now looking back at it...I simply had a processor or CPU error of some sort.
The error, "ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded"
(ntkrnlmp.exe = NT Kernel MultiProcessor?)
I still don't understand how setting the CPU speed to 1000MHz and back to 1333MHz fixed the problem. Regardless of the FSB,which I believe is automatically detected, I have a 1333MHz CPU.
I was trying to install Windows XP Professional on a generic system of Acer and other brand components. When I switched out the RAM, the error code 7 message (ntkrnlmp.exe can't be loaded) stopped occuring.
I'va had the same problem. In fact I just check my whole BIOS parameters. On a ABIT KT7, you need to discharge the CMOS, restore the BIOS default and specify new settings. I had also unselected the cache LEVEL. In fact my ntkrnlmp.exe pb seems to be solve, and I'm able to boot correctly.
I am having a similar problem while trying to upg from win2k to xppro. I think the file is for multiprocessor support, but I cannot find it on my system anywhere. I am running single AMD xp1700+, and tried the above clocking fix(didnt work)......Any help greatly appreciated.
I was installing win2k server on a junker computer: AMD 1000 with 256MB pc133 ram. I tried a few things like swaping hard drives and changing power supplies, as well as taking out cards. Turned out I was getting the error 4 (File \i386\ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded) from a slot of ram being faulty. I didn't even think of the ram being faulty because I was using it a second ago untill I read some of the posts on here. Hope my resolution can help someone.
I also came across error #4 (File \i386\ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded). I got this while trying to boot from advanced server boot floppies and I also got it during a 2000 pro CD install. I stress tested my floppy drive and HDD and came up with no errors. I also cleared the CMOS to default settings. Then I got smart and went to computing.net and read to swap the memory...I swapped it and installed it with success! I appreciate the help. It is strange that it's happening mostly with AMD or DDR...
K7s5a (has the XP sticker) New AMD 1800+ New Dr. Thermal TI-S8640K CPU fan
These came on a barebones system that can still be seen on eBay at: "http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2033415747"
I added: 1x New IBM DeskStar (80gigs 7200, SMART, Ultra ATA,etc) 1x used generic floppy drive 1x used generic CD-ROM (old x24, but it works fine in my Dell) 1x used SoundBlaster Live! Sound Card (just pulled from my Dell) 1x gently used ATI 8500 video card
I have tried booting from CD-ROM, from floppies, different cables, flashing the BIOS, NEW Brand Name DDR, swapping memory slots, different CD-ROMS, different floppies, AGP/PCI video cards, even a brand new 400w power supply. You name it I have tried it.
I too had 4 and 7 errors on a amd with 200/266 fic ad11 board. I switched the pin from 133 to 100 bus speed and it took the win2000 install. thanks for the help out of my all-night problem
