Trying to instal Win2K Server over my existing Win98SE version. Message: "The language of this installation of Windows differs from the one you are installing. The option to upgrade will not be available." I click ok and 2nd message "Windows 2000 Setup does not support upgrading from win98 to MS win2k server." Then there's only the clean install option that says I will have to reinstall all my software. Is there any other way around?

I don't wanna waste time reinstalling tons of software.

Suggestions, please!

1. what benefit do you wish to obtain from installing w2k server on a current win98 box

2. is it a legit copy of w2k server. i.e. did you go out and purchase or find it

Suggestion - install W2K separately and dual boot it

1. what benefit...
Win98SE has a limit of system resource. I work with hundreds of softwares running and w98 freezes too often.
2. is it a legit copy..
Err... I guess I found it...

- install W2K separately...
Not sure how to do that. If I select "clean install" will the setup prgrm do this automatically??

MS sells 2 kinds of OS, the upgrade kind and the other kind. If your "found" copy is the other kind it will not install on any machine that has an OS allready on it. You can try this rename the win98 sys files, (command.com, msdos.sys, ibm.sys), install win2k to a different locatin, ie. NOT over c:/windows, then rename the win98 sys files back to normal. It may work, may not, if nothing else you may have to re-install win98.
