I recently had my computor go out and installed another computor. My problam is I cannot get win2k to install from my cd. Do not know why. Here's what I have did. Installed win98 on this computor from cd using boot floppy no problam. installed winXP on this computor using cd. boots to cd and installs no problam. installed win2k on another computor to check cd booted and installed no problam.
installed win98 and copied win2k to second partition on hdd installed win2k as second os. worked fine. Tried to install win2k from cd using boot floppies. Failed. Tried to install win2k from second partition using boot floppies. Failed. What I need is a boot floppie modified to install from second partition. Or a program that will install win2k from another partition.
Anybody know how to do this or know of a link with info.

What I need is a boot floppie modified to install from second partition
I'm not 100% sure what you're trying to do. If you mean copy the install files from the 2000 CD onto your 2nd partition and then run the install from there, yes, you can do that. This method doesn't require any modifications of the bootdisk:Simply copy the \i386 folder and it's contents from the CD onto the 2nd partition (remember, this has to be FAT32). Then, boot with your 98 bootdisk and change to that drive and then change into the \i386 folder and type the following command to start the install process:
winntTwo things to note: 1) I said your partition has to be FAT32 as a DOS based bootdisk like your 98 bootdisk can't see NTFS and therefore the partition has to be something it can read (ie: FAT32) in order to access the folder to start the install. 2) You will want to copy smartdrv.exe onto the bootdisk from your 98 install and run it right before you start the install process. This will allow the file copy process to proceed as quickly as possible. Without it, it will either fail or copy so slowly as to be annoying.
If that isn't what you meant, please try to be a little clearer as I'm not understanding exactly what you mean.

That is what I mean. I tried copying everything from the win2k disk and running setup but as you know it does not work like that I will try doing it as you said.
Thank you.

Echoing CurtR's comments (especially re' smartdrive.exe) these two liknks may also be worth a perusal.
You can run the appropriate command from the dos ('98 a: ) prompt.

deals with the "correct" (but not essential to use it) syntax for an installation from the hard drive.
i.e.: c:\winnt /s:x:\i386\winnt.exe
(where x = drive/partition letter for location of i386)

and read the reference to source files too; it relates/refers to an issue that may affect you/arrive later...?
