well, first of all it isn't possible to retain your programs because of the differences in how teh os's excecute progs and differences in the registry. If you installed win2k on a fat32 drive, what you can do, though, is use a boot disk to get a command prompt and go in and delete the C:\WINNT, C:\Documents and Settings, and C:\Program Files folders, and also delete any files in the C:\ directory that aren't your personal files. This should give you a clean slate to work with. If you installed win2k on an NTFS file system, you're S.O.L cause win98 can't read NTFS.

Why would you want to get rid of win2k?

well !! if u have using 98 in fat32 fomat and
Win2000 in NTFS format. then it's really trouble. however this is what i do b4, first u go to 2000 professinal and go to system, and go to startup and recovery, and change the start up O/s as win98 first. once the system boot up, and u will see it will hightlight the win 98. Second if u have Partition Magic, then u can use it on windows 98 to format Professinal 2000 first, and and then go to the Boot.in file to make the timer be 0. but make sure u change the start up menu to win98 first,, then u can edit
boot.ini.. if u did'nt edit the start up menu, u will be in trouble....

If c: = fat32 (not ntfs) then you can install '98 alongside W2K. It will rewrite the current W2K mbr to the DOS/'9x version; it will disable access to W2K; it will install all its files into C: .

You will not have a dual-boot at this time (and you don't want one?); but you will have '98 only access.

You will have to install all apps afresh for '98.

You can now locate and delete (via '98 Explorer) the W2K folder (winnt), and also the Page-file.sys; similarly the W2K boot/start-up files if you wish.

Defrag afterwards.

Job done.

If c: = ntfs then things is not so easy... post back it that's the case?

BACK-UP DATA first if possible.
