Hi I'm about to purchase a laptop (IBM Thinkpad X22), the model doesn't come with a CD-Rom drive, and I was wondering: If I ever need to format the HDD and re-install Win2000, how would I go about it?
Is it possible to install over an Ethernet connection to my desktop PC? Or would I have to buy a USB-Drive?

supposing you can still boot the laptop, you could do an installation from the desk top,

I have an IBM and they come with a disc image on a hidden partion. You can re-install from there, BUT, it will wipe the entire hard drive setting it back to like brand new. Anything you install will be gone, and have to be reinstalled.
Take my advice, spend the extra for the attachable cd drive.

Hmmm yea. External drives arent as expensive as I thought, $87 for a 48x one on pricewatch, so I guess I could buy one in a few months.
