My recently installed service pack 4 did away with my ability to see a specific firewire device. I need to reinstall sp1. Can I do this? What do I need to look out for?

I don't think you ca do that without uninstalling SP4. I never install any fixes or SPs unless I'm having a problem. They cause more problems then they are worth.

Service Pack 4 includes all patches/upgrades from the previous service packs. I doubt that going back to Service Pack 1 will fix your problem. Depending upon how you installed Service Pack 4 there may be an uninstall file in your winnt directory.
