Reply: (edit)Blank the hard drive ( I would use the HD manufactures utilities), boot to the W2000 CD or the four boot floppies and do a fresh installation. I don't see any reason this won't work!

Reply: (edit)PS: I've never had good luck with fdisk. It doesn't erase the hard drive, just makes the space rewritable. I use Ontrack's "Data Eraser" and make all sectors "00". Ontrack has a demo download that works once. Email me if you need more help.

Reply: (edit)There are four Windows 2000 Setup Boot floppies. The first one is bootable. To make a set of these disks, insert the Windows 2000 CD in a CD-ROM drive on any computer running Windows or MS-DOS with the drivers for CD-ROM drive access. In Windows 2000, 9X or Me: Start, Run, enter D:\bootdisk\ makebt32 a: where D: is your CD-ROM drive. In Windows 9X or Me: Start, Run, enter D:\bootdisk\makeboot a: where D: is your CD-ROM drive. By the way, are you using a SCSI Hard drive? if so, you need to load the SCSI driver during the first floppy, I think press F6, but the system won't ask for the SCSI driver until between the second and third boot disk. Good Luck

Reply: (edit)Dick/Patrick have given you the basics: and if you don't have a running OS to hand - with which to make the four floppies... then I think you can download a set at: http://www.bootdisk.com But then again, if you can access the above site, then you have a system with which you can make the floppies...?

Reply: (edit)If you are using a 98 boot disk on a clean install of win2k, this should be a simple fix. Reformat the drive by using this command: FORMAT C: /S or, if you don't want to format again (although I recommend that you do) try running: SYS C: from your A: drive. This will copy the windows sys files to your HDD, thus making the drive bootable. This should make your problem go away.
