My NEC laptop hard disk is not working and I bought new hard drive. How can I install Windows 2000 in it. I have the windows 2000 CD. should I format the disk first? If yes what file format and how to format? Please help

Reply: (edit)W2K forms partitions and formats the drive during setup. Just boot your flaptop from the CD.

Reply: (edit)I am unable to boot from the CD. I am getting Non - system disk Or Disk error while booting before that It also says. Sec Master - ATAPI Incompatable. I did changed the BIOS to boot from CD. What should I do now? Please help Thanks

put the 2k cd into a puter that is working fine
and hold the control key down so the auto start
function won't start the install. a system using
98 will work fine. After the disk passes the point
where it wont "auto start", browse the 2k disk
and click on "boot disk" then click "makeboot.exe"
you will need "4" 3.5 floppy disks, don't forget
to format them first. Then install 2k on your
machine using the 4 disks and your 2k cd. hope
