Comment:

I use win2k pro. I usually use dial-up modem. The other day I need to update the OS, so I put a NIC card in, and connected it to my linksys router. Now every time I boot, it acts like it wants to boot from a network. On every bootup it says press CTRL-ALT-B to configure. It also askes if I want to boot from network but it doesn't give me a chance to respond.

I have updated OS, now I've taken out the NIC and I'm using dial-up modem. How do I get the PC to boot without it assuming it is booting to a network?

Make sure the BIOS settings do not include booting from the Network. And in the BIOS, disable "Wake on Lan."
