Install win2k fails with emm386 err

CPU/Ram: Xeon2.4ghz/2gb

During install of windows 2000 Pro on a Dell Precision Workstation 450, the windows 2000 install fails with "emm386 failed to load a program --- press ENTER to reboot"....

I thought emm386 was history....

YEP! EMM386 is MS-DOS, nothing like that in W2K, maybe you ought to clear the hard drive and start afresh:
