Subject: install softwares for all usersOS: Windows 2000 ProCPU/Ram: varies |
Comment: Hi, I am running a Windows 2000 pro lab that only allows administrator to install softwares. I need to install coldfusion studios and Quickbooks for all users to use, but Coldfusion studios and Quickbooks seem to only allow administrator to use if I install it under administrator. So I keep logging in as administrator for other users to use. Is there a way that I can enable all users to use Coldfusion and quickbooks without installing them under every account? Thanks. Johnny

Reply: (edit)Probably only the shortcuts to the program are under the Administrator profile. Logged in as administrator, move the shortcuts from "C:\Documents and Settings\administrator\Start Menu\Programs\YOURPROGRAM" to "C:\Documents and Settings\ALL USERS\Start Menu\Programs\YOURPROGRAM" In other cases, the users may need write access to the C:\Program Files\YOURPROGRAM directory. Making the users member of the "Power Users" local group will remedy that, but is a security risk. Lastly, worst case, the users may need write access in the HKEY_Local_Machine registry. In that case, you may need to make the users member of the local administrators group.
