I have a problem with a new W2K installation that I could not yet solve despite various efforts:
1. Whenever I run the installation on this system, the part where one puts in the W2K licence key and the regional/time settings never appears. In other words, the installation just runs through without asking for it.
2. And then, when it restarts, the system gets stuck at the point when the GUI start-up begins to run (progress bar remains permanently at zero).
After starting up in safe mode, I got an error message that the licence is not found - well, no wonder after 1 above ;-)
Reformatting the harddisk with W2K, Windows 98 Fdisk or the IBM tools (harddisk is IBM) including erasing the master boot record, changing some BIOS settings etc has brought no difference whatsoever.
RAM has been checked okay with a memory checking program, and the harddisk passed all the tests with the IBM utilities.
Any ideas what else might cause this annoyance?
BTW: I am installing from a normal W2K professional CD that requires the product key. Just did it with the same CD on another system and I had to type in the key.
Thanks for any help.
