Clean install with an 2k upgrade disk. Inserting Windows95 as qualifying software when prompted.
Things ive tried:
1.Fdisked/Formatted with a windows me startup disk.
2.Deleted and recreated the partition during 2k setup.
3.Wrote zeros to the drive with MaxBlast.exe from maxtor. With each of these in this order...
Install went along as usual until i chose to format using NTFS. The format would go thru the motions till the yellow bar hit 100% then i would be prompted with an error message telling me it could not complete the format because of damage and to return to select a different partition to install 2k on. I also gave fat32 a shot same results.Other than the error message the only thing i noticed was that when i chose to delete the existing fat32 partition i created with the 9x boot disk then to recreate it i wasnt able to adjust the amount of space. The numbers were highlighted but i could find no way to access or change them. My only options was enter to continue or esc to return to previous screen.
what am i missing? Ive installed 2k on this computer in the past as part of a dualboot and alone.
If more info is required to answer this post let me know. Im going to search thru the install screenshots and link to those that the error occured. Thanks for any ideas.

The screenshot idea is a bust. I cant find the ones i need. Im going to try and list step by step what happened incase this sparks something for you guys.
clean drive/setup begins/I F8 agree and stick the 95 disk in/the next page shows me my partitions and gives me the option to delete the selected partition or setup windows on the selected partition nothing else. Quick format is missing. I remember seeing this once about a year ago at the office.
If i delete-recreate i end up back in the same place prompted again to either setup windows or delete the selected partition.
Moving on i choose to setup windows on selected item and im prompted with a message telling me the drive contains the wrong file system or is damaged and allows me to format fat32 or ntfs. I choose to format with either=same resultes. Format begins and ends a half hour later with the error message telling me format couldnt complete because the disk may be damaged. Its a 40GB drive. Ive tried creating a 10GB primary partition with the windows startup disk and leaving it unformatted and once i fdisked then formatted. I ran the diagnostic utilities on maxblast. Even the 2 hours "low level format" with no errors every test passed.
Thanks again.
