Hola, quiero instalar W2000 server desde un cd que no es autorun. Tengo una particíón con el XP pro (con 1,5 GB libres), otra virgen de 1,5 GB (NTFS), y otra tercera con archivos (también con espacio libre y NTFS). Como el cd no es autorun, arranco con un disquete y luego me voy al cd e intento instalarlo (desde I386\winnt). Arranca la instalación, pero me dice que necesita 240 MB de espacio en disco, y que el disco sea compatible con w2000 y que no esté comprimido y que salga del proceso de instalación. He jugado con las particiones, cambiando los valores (primaria, lógica, activa), pero no hay forma. Si lo intento arrancando con el xp, me dice que el w2000 es un S.O. anterior y que no se puede instalar (y que llame a microsoft a Rechmond, jeje) A ver que me decís, es que quiero trastear con el w2000 server. I'm not yet fully across Kucors situation but thus far I'm reading his post as: he wants to install XP (if I'm interpreting the Spanish correctly); and there are few minor issues he wishes to address/understand too. I'll have a go at answering his query shortly (in Spanish and English); likewise I'm guessing others will do the same. Also, there are on-line translation sites 'out there' too; these can help one to translate incoming posts and post replies accordingly.

As I see it, Kucor has a drive that has XP in one partition (at least 1.5Gig free space left – presumably ntfs), another partition formatted as ntfs that is (presumably) empty, and another partition also ntfs and that has some free space. He has attempted to install W2K via a W2K floppy boot. The installation routine drops out with an error message saying it wants 240Meg free space for the installation (presumably temp files). It also says the drive is OK for w2K – but does it really say it is??? Now he cannot boot to XP as a result of the failed W2K installation. This is obviously because W2K setup has overwritten the XP versions of ntldr/ntdetect.com; XP cannot boot using those W2K versions. To recover access to XP he needs to run XP setup\repair and use the fixboot option. What is not clear is whether or not he started a clean-installation, or started an attempt to Upgrade XP to W2K – which cannot be done. I’m inclined to believe he did go for a clean-installation. Also what is not clear is where he attempted to install W2K. Was it in the empty ntfs partition or to the same (Primary) partition as XP itself? If alongside XP (in the same partition) then that may be the issue here regarding installation failing…? Also is this system OK for W2K even though it is OK for XP; it should be with the specifications as posted…? Perhaps Kucor can confirm the above is correct; also that the system is OK for W2K - that he has all required drivers. etc? My Spanish is not very good - in fact it's almost non-existant... I have three partitions NTFS: A one with XP (1.5 free GB). One with archives (1.5 free GB). Empty one created specifically to install w2000 in her. The problem is that when trying to install w2000 (starting from a start floppy), the system does not let to me choose partition. Also it says to me that it needs 240 free MB. Also it says to me that it needs a compatible disc with w2000. The installation process directs me to microsoft and forces me to exit. I do not have problem to start with xp. I have partition magic and discs of starting. I want to know if it is possible to install w2000 in a PC that already has xp installed (in different partitions of course). It seems to be that xp does not let install w2000. I want to have systems both. A solution would be to formatear and to install first w2000 and soon xp. Prefiero not to formatear.
