Comment: I recently copied an old hard drive to a new one. The new hard drive now is unable to boot into windows 2000 getting the fun blue screen of death and innaccessible boot device. I can boot into safe mode and have tried some things there, check disk and whatnot to see if the hard drive was bad but isn't. Also if I try to boot in safe mode with networking I get the same problem. It is an older machine but there has to be a way to make this work. I am pulling my damn hair out for 3 days on this Thanks for any help on this issue.

Reply: (edit)I feel I should qualify this some more. I have tried running the sfc /scannow in safe mode to check for that. Also tried upgrading the bios to the latest version. I have taken out all the expansion cards 2 scsi and the network card and still no dice. I for fun took a different hard drive and tried a fresh install of windows 2000 and after it copies the files and then reboots to run the setup of that I get the same issue. Sorry for the double post but I didn't see the edit button. Again, thanks.

Reply: (edit)You say you copied an old HDD to a new one? How exactly did you do that? Ghost? Drive Image? Is the partition with the OS active and bootable? Life is more painless for those who are brainless.

Reply: (edit)I used ghost 2003. I checked in fdisk and the hard drive is primary and active, hence being able to boot into safe mode. But I get the error when going into windows normal.

Reply: (edit)If you can boot into safe mode, run msconfig and disable everthing in the startup tab and reboot.

Reply: (edit)Thanks for the suggestions however, the original hard drive is no longer working so I cannot reghost the drive, It was close to dying and I think I did to much for it to handle and it won't boot now at all with that drive. Second can you run msconfig on a win 2k machine, in my experience you can't but I have never tried in safe mode. I will give that a shot. Thanks again.

Reply: (edit)You can d\l the Winxp version of msconfig. That'll work on Win2K. Larry Today seems like a good day to chew through the restraints.

Reply: (edit)Who told you that you can't run msconfig on w2k? I do it all the time. Download it and run it.
