***I already posted twice in this forum and didn't get any good answers. PLZ help!***

I dunno what caused this problem or exactly when it started. One day I started booting into w2k and got the INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE BSOD.
Back when I installed w2k, I didn't have much experience w/ w2k, so i never made an ERD. The first thing I came up w/ is using the repair feature of W2k Setup. It didn't work.
Then I tried booting w/ "last known good configuration"... and it worked! It took a bit longer than usual, but the system booted up perfectly w/o errors and it was just as i left it. BUT, when I tried to restart... the BSOD was back! :(
The only way I can use my w2k is if I go into the F8 menu at boot time and use the "last known good config." EVERY TIME i boot up my computer.
How can I make it boot up NORMALLY again? Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Have you tried using the recovery console?

If not, read here.

Most people don't install the recovery console on their PCs because they don't know about it. To install the console, insert your Win2K Pro CD into the CD Rom. Click on START>RUN and enter :\i386\winnt32 /cmdcons This will prompt for the installation of the Recovery console.

To access the Console reboot. You will encounter a boot loader screen where you can select the recover console.

Type Help for a list of commands. I think the command that will fix the issue is FIXBOOT. If that doesn't work, there are some other commands in there for you to try.

good luck

Thank you so much!! It worked!!!
One funny little thing happened though that I thought I'd mention. After FIXBOOT wrote the new bootsector, it gave me this message:
"The new bootsector was succcessfully written." Those "ccc"'s are not a typo, it's exactly what I got on the screen. It seems to me that someone at Microsoft doesn't know how to SPELL!!!

I have the same problem, but I can't even get into the last known good config. I had installed Win2k on an older machine. When I first installed it, i got an error saying that to press F7 because of some BIOS issue. So I did that and it installed fine. Now I built a new comp and I am using the same HD, and I am getting the Inaccessible boot device error. And I tried the recovery console, it didn't help. Any suggestions?

here is how I fixed it for my laptop.

I inserted the cd and booted to recovery console.

at the C: prompt, I typed fixboot and hit enter.

then I typed chkdsk /r and hit enter.

I got this info from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/techinfo/reskit/en/prork/prhd_exe_qhzo.htm

I hope this helps
