I recently started getting the error msg Inaccessable Boot Device...I installed Win2k about a month ago & everything was fine up until few days ago.It happened just after I installed new software which could have been infected.after I installed & rebooted the error msg apaeared.I then tried to fix the problem through dos put the drive is not present..I then took the drive out set it to slave and but another drive set as master with win98 to access it that way,but its still not there(is this due to win98 being fat32 it cant detect the ntfs drive???)if theres anyone who can HELP,it would be really appreciated as Im stressed:(

You are correct that neither DOS nor 9x will see an NTFS partition.

You MIGHT fix it if the problem is an infection, by doing this:

Boot on a 98 floppy and:

fdisk /mbr
[enter]

But don't try it if you have unsaved data on it.

You could install w2k on the 98 drive.

It will create a dual boot.

Do NOT create NTFS.

Get the data off the problem drive as slave.

OR you could reboot with your win2K cd in the CD drive and try to fix the win2K from the options avaliable. You will have 2 options - full automatic repair and console.

Full automatic repair will change all files to their original state, mind you you will have to re-upgrade again, but it should get rid of virii in the OS.

You can also launch console from the same win2K CD selection if automatic fix doesn't work and use mbr command - same effect.
