I just installed win2k pro and now it's impossible to turn off the computer : ) a bit annoying actually ...

When I try to power down I get the "safe to turn off you computer" screen, but when I press the power button nothing happens. The power off function at the loginscreen doesn't work either. Any guesses?

Try holding the power button in for 4 secs.

HaHa, holding the power button for 4 seconds is an option. A very rude one though! It's like pulling the power cord.:-)
There seems to be a problem with your Power Management. Your BIOS might not be fully ACPI-compliant. Try updating your BIOS.
Then turn on APM (Advanced Power Management) in Win2K.

Good luck.

hmm, now that I look at the APM, I see that win2k says that it won't load. If that's the problem, could it still be the motherboard that's causing the problem? As far as I know it should work, it's an Abit ZM6

Just a suggestion!!. You have already talked about APM, but did you enable it through windows? If not, go to WIndows Explorer, Control Panel, Power Options, APM Tab and tick the Advanced Power management Support box. Worked a treat for me on both my PCs. Good luck

Just to say I had the same problem on a PC running 2k even though 98 used to turn the machine right off. I tried the APM Enable setting in power management in control panel but this just made it try turning off and then flicked back on. (I am running a Gigabyte 5AX (F1 Bios Rev)). I will try flashing the bios. Thanks.

In response to the last message I posted, I have just visited Gigabyte's website and look what I saw under the latest bios flash:
"2. Support Windows 2000 ACPI mode installation. "
I suggest the utmost caution when flashing your bios but it may be the answer.
