Before I upgrade my computer to w2000 i made an backup of my mail to a .pst file. Now i,ve reinstalled outlook and tried to import my .pst file, but outlook gives two error messages: "service must be defined before it can be used" and then "acces is denied you dont have enough rights to open the file" and that while i have administrator rights.
Does anybody knows the cause of this
Thanks

I think that you need to become the "owner" of the file. Select the .pst file from Explorer, right-mouse-click, select "properties", select the "security" tab, click the "advanced" command button at the lower-left, and click the "owner" tab. Under "current owner of this item", you'll probably see it blank. Double-click on "administrators" to make all administrators the owner. Exit from the properties window. Now you shouldn't get the "access is denied" message anymore.

You should be able to "import" the .pst file (I've done it many times). Be sure you select "file" in the menu, "import and export", "import from another program or file", and "personnel folder file (.pst)". Point to the file name and it should come in as a separate folder in Outlook. You have to open the folder to see anything in it. I hope this helps...

I had the same problem some years ago with outlook 97. it simply had a problem with write-protected .pst files. did you burn your .pst on a CD? try taking away the read-only bit and import it again.
hope that helps (just a guess though)
