Hi
I thought I'd clean up my boss's Win 2k puter because it was slowing down so much, so I thought since I knew all the users on our network, and he had heaps more than that.
So I deleted a whole load of them.
And now his puter doesn' connect the network, and no internet. And most of his icons on the desktop don't show up.
I read http://support.microsoft.com/kb/840001 and totally don't understand any of it.
I mean like I put all the users back in from his Documents and Settings folder. I just totally don't get all that ManagedBy and MemberOf stuff.
We're all just in a Users Group called WORKGROUP. How hard is that?
But I remember last week I started the network and his puter had some kind of error like checksum or something, and said "CMOS CHECKSUM ERROR DEFAULTS LOADED" and told me to Hit F1 to continue.
I was thinking maybe if I could find those DEFAULTS LOADED defaults, and load them again? It'd bring my boss's puter back to before I deleted his stuff hey?
Please help, it's the weekend now, and I need to fix it before he gets back to work Monday. Or I'm totally cooked.
TIA
Cyn
Cyn is FUN!

If the computer is old the CMOS battery may need to be replaced. Boot into the BIOS, usually del, and see if the date and time are wrong. If so, repace the coin shaped silver battery on the MBoard.
You may have deleted the Login profile for your boss, or possibly even your boss's predecessor. If that is the case you can simply create a new one. Logging in as the administrator is not a good adea for everyday use. you can grant administrator privilidges to anyone, including your boss's new profile.

I put all the users back in from his Documents and Settings folder but it won't get onto the network and the internet.
And it's where we store SO much work.
If I can just get it onto the network again, I can recreate his desktop pretty well.
God I could just VOMIT I'm so stupid

You're not stupid.
You made a mistake.
Now, can you log on as an Administrator?
If you can, you rebuild almost anything your boss had before. And you should be able to og onto the Internet.
If not, you may have to delete the Local Area connection and then build a new one.

Yeah I left Administrator.
So delete the Local Area Connection hey
OK I'll try it
You know I love Oscar Wilde's quotes -- my favourite is "All criticism is a form of autobiography"

Yeah -- look you know what?
I'm in deep sh*t here . . . might as well come clean wityh old Johnno on Monday -- I can't do anything about it obviously, so why wreck the weekend hey?
Thanks so much for trying to help me, but I'm sick of this office and this problem and its a sunny day in Paradise outside . . . thnk I'm just gonna hit Surfers Paradise and grab sun sun

The KB Article refers to Active Directory. You
mention a Workgroup, but nothing about running server with Active Directory. Deleting user profiles under Documents and Settings has nothing to do with connecting to the Network. Where EXACTLY did you go to delete the users? What else did you do?If you're an Administrator, you should have at least a basic understanding of how accounts and profiles work (at the VERY least.)
Life's more painless for the brainless.

I'm over it now frankly -- Thanks for your ideas, the boss wasn't too bad about it anyway

Best of luck.
Hope you get it all sorted out.
