|Boot with a Knoppix or Ubuntu disk; go on-line to Trend.com and run their freebie "Housecall" utility. Let it do a full scan. Unlikely it will - but if it does quarantine anything onto the HD itself... delete whatever it does...|
Housecall may download a few files to run its utility; let it as they are required and do no harm.
AVG also may offer a freebie scan too; perhaps go there as well?
Then I suggest you disable (preferably uninstall your current scanner; then install/run avast (avast.com ) freebie util instead. You have to register (valid for 14months approx) otherwisee it is free and they don't spam or pass your info about either. Updates automatically... You cannot run actively two virus utils at the same time; try it and likely neither willl work properly - if at all...; may even report the other as a virus threat...?
Once you have avast installed and updated after installation - run a "full" scan that way too. If it quarantines anything... delete whatever it is...
Both have a freebie iso image for download; which burn to a dvd and use that dvd.
Also while you are booted viia Knoppix/Ubuntui - perhaps copy all data to optical-media; and verify copies are accessible on at least one other system. This in case you have to take more drastic steps to resolve the current problems...; your data will already be preserved...?
