K. First of all, how do you know it's a virus? Are the anti-virus programs indicating a virus?

What's the exact file that's causing the error? You should be able to click on the details of the error message and find that filename.

Think i had the same problem, IE was generating errors when i tried accessing websites, bit of a messy job removing IE completely as its fairly rooted into the OS. I downloaded slimbrowser from download.com- make that your defalut browser- and i havnt had a problem since.

Get the IEService Pack 1, then use it's repair ability to fix up the problem.

its a case of trojans that changed your iexplorer.exe, you will have to reformat.
If your problem is in iexplorer.exe file there is no way you can reinstall it because of windows 2000 protection that will create the same errord iexplorer.exe file again when you try to reinstall internet explorer.

There are several fixes available for this particular problem. MLy, if you just post the name of the file that's causing the error, I can give you the correct fix.

A repair will not fix the problem, nor will an attempted uninstall/reinstall.

Ok, thanks for all of the responses! I think the file name is iexplorer.exe. The error messages that come up when trying to access some websites make reference to that name.

There are two simular sounding processes you may be dealing with,
iexplore.exe - Internet Explorer

and

iexplorer.exe - A spam util, used to download advertisments from the internet and display them.

If it's a problem with the second, i'd locate the file, remove it, and any registry entries refering to it.
