iexplore.exe errors

All of sudden I can't open a second (or third or fourth) browser window (first one works OK) without getting an error message dialogue box "iexplore.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program"

Thanks. Tried each suggestion, on their site, without success. It is strange. I can open 5 different browsers from any link, except the shortcut to Explorer or the Explorer program, itself (the first one opens OK, but any others generate the error). Just tried to "scan for updates" from Microsoft and it generated a error, indicating a problem. Followed their suggestions for correcting that, without any success.
Summary: Hi Everytime I click on Shut down, the following message comes up. "end progrogram, iexplorer.exe" and the message at the bottom says "program not responding" and I have to click the "end now" button....
