IE6 hangs with second window open

This is a very irritating problem. When I open a second browser window or a pop-up appears from a webpage, IE totally locks up i'm forced to ctrl+alt+del and close Explorer (not responding), which in turn hits my Active Desktop. My machine is running with 128MB of RAM. Any ideas on how to solve this? Any more info needed let me know.
