Anyone care to try this one?

WIN2K SP4…..
I recently cleaned this crashing system of several virus files (housecall.) Things seem back to normal except:

IE (6.0) can only browse in safe mode (w/networking.)
On regular boot, I can ping and browse websites by IP, but not hostname.

I tried eradicating & re-installing IE 6, “forcing” DNS IP’s, Spybot S&D and Adaware.
No Proxy, and I tried turning off Zone Alarm …no other firewalls.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

If you can't ping host names than it's a DNS issue. Try renaming the machine and also resetting the DNS information (in TCP/IP Properties). And flush the DNS cache from a command prompt with "IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS". See if any of that helps...

I tried flushdns, but no result. Today I tried uninstalling & re-installing the networking & I was able to surf....it might be fixed...still not sure what the exact trouble was....
