I have a friend who is telling me that when he opens IE his CPU usage shoots to 100%. He has current antivirus defs and runs Spybot and adaware and comes up with nothing. All MS updates are done as well. He downloaded Netscape and has no problems. Will it create problems if he uninstalls IE and then reinstalls it? I've heard this creates more problems... advice?

I've experienced this problem recently, so I will put here my
consideration here for everybody.
My system is a Windows 2000 Sp 4 with 700mhz processor and 384MB RAM.
I don't belive the problem is given by sp4 because I've installed a long time ago and it never appeared. The problem happen when I connect with a 56k dial-up modem to the Net.
From the Event Log I see that there are a lot of error after the event that notify me of the connection.
This error alert me of a timeout of 30 sec. with a dmserver and a dnscache. So I think about something that happen before the connection that could take a lot of time...
Recently I have added a lot of entry to the host file (c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts) with spybot search & destroy and it grow up to 300k.
So I reduce it's entry to 127.0.0.1 localhost and the problem stop.
I encourage you trying to do the same.
Hope that this culd be of any help and sorry for my bad english.....
