IE 6 and 5.0

I had IE 6 installed and did some tidying up (clearing the history etc) but when I tried to visit secure areas I get a page not found screen. I made sure all the settings in options were set to correctly but still no joy.
I therefore uninstalled v6 and Win2000 reverted to v5. Now no page will view though I can still connect. Re installing v6 doesn't solve the problem either.

Did you try Netscape 4.7 onwards?

I had a very similar problem with IE6 on a Win98 machine. After upgrading to IE6, I had all sorts of problems with printing and browsing. Most problems were errors in the IE exe's. So I thought I would uninstall 6, which seemed to work since it reverted to 5.5. However, then browsing continued to cause all sorts of IE problems and the printing errors did not go away. I hope this will not be your case, but ultimately the HD was reformatted.

If you open up IE and go to Help>>about internet explorer... what is your cipher strength? It should be 128bit. If it is not, you will not be able to reach secure sites. You can redownload/reinstall the 128bit encryption pack from windowsupdate.

Have re-installed ver 6 but no joy. Encryption is set at 128 bit but I notice that internet options/advanced tab, only 3 Java related options are listed.

I had the same problem, but if you follow this link & install the high encryption pack then you will get 128 bit encryption.
