Bought a Compaq MV920 19" monitor for £190, it arrived yesterday. I put it on my PC, which is a Pentium II 233 with 128mb memory, running Win2K SP1 and IE 5.5 with SP1. Old Matrox video card.
Looks great, tried various settings,etc.
Discovered IE 5.5 was hogging memory -- one Google window was running up to 70000K -- and I mean running up to that, would start low and I could see the memory it was using steadily increase. Then it drops back to about 1200K and starts going up again. At one point IE was using more memory than I have ram!
Replaced with old Sony 15" monitor, no change, still gobbling memory.
Using Opera it's ok, but why would IE suddenly start leaking memory like that? And going up and down like a yoyo? I'd made no software changes at all.
One final point. When I close IE5.5 I can see in Task Manager that it is still running for about a minute or two, still eating more and more memory. It then vanishes from Task Manager.
Thanks.
Doug

Download a memory cleaner link Freemem. It keeps your ram flushed out.
Also you could and should adjust your vertual ram to 2.5x what your actual ram is.

If you have Service Pack 2 for Windows 2000 installed, try REinstalling it. Or else try REinstalling your Internet Explorer, sounds more like something got a little funny somewhere, and you just happened to notice when you changed the monitor cause you were poking around.....
