I have seen this come up on a laptop with a bad motherboard. You could try the ibm web site for win2k drivers, or use the recovery cd to reinstall if you have it. Even if the recovery cd is another OS, I'd try it to rule out the motherboard issue.

To be brutally honest my opionion of IBM laptops is that their hardware is very very deviant, to the extent that even newer P'n'P OS's don't have a clue what most of the devices are. I built a T23 from scratch with Windows 2000 because the company doesn't allow XP, it was a nightmare. I only did it once because after that I imaged it, but if I remember correctly the unknown device is power management. The PCI device may be a NIC or a sound card which in some cases is different from one T23 to the next. Regretably you just need to download loads of drivers and keep trying until there are no unknown devices. IBM laptops are the hardest to buil that I have come accross!!

these is unknown device which w2k cannot recognize. go to device manager and right click on the unknown device and choose upgrade driver and let the system search for the driver. I supposed you have a cd drive for your thinkpad. And walah, it should be there. Mostly this is a IBM PM device for power manament.

Summary: i recently did a clean format of a new ibm thinkpad i bought. i deleted thwe partitions and created a new 30 gig drive. the problem im having is that after i formatted , i cannot get a cd rom driver ...
