I have this strange problem to solve. Whenever I logon to windows 2000, W2K is starting to load my personal settings. This seems no problem to me. However, directly after this login procedure, windows automaticaly starts to logoff and save my personal settings, resulting in the original login window. This occurs for all new usersand the administrator. There are 3 users that were set up on the system and they can log in just fine.
Would this be a problem with the default user.dat?

Brad,
I am having the same exact problem. If you find anything out please let me know and I will let you know if I find anything out. Thanks
Kenny

Brad,
I just found out that Easy CD creator 5 has a problem with 2000 that will cause problems like the one we are having. I don't know if you have this loaded. But I do and I was told I have to re load 2000 install easy CD creator then the patch from their web site. Install booth the software and the patch before re-booting. Hope this helps. It helped me

Here is the link to the web site with the patch. Hope it helps...

Thanks for the help. However, it doesn't have that installed. If a user hasn't logged on before it to this pc then it gives a user environment box that says windows can't load profile but has loaded a default one.....

Brad..
check and make sure that there is enough space on the C: drive for a new profile to be created, otherwise you will have problems like this.

Brad
You have my sympathies and complete understanding - I have exactly the same problem without the Easy CD creator software or Hard Drive space limitations mentioned above. I am looking into it and will pass on the fix when/if the solution emerges. Please let me know if you have any success.
Thanks

Brad,
I had the same problem after installing the software Xosl, I uninstalled it and everything works again....
But Partition Magic gives an error now, so I think that the origin of the whole problem is a corrupt MBRKind regards
Ljoe

Brad/Ljoe
Funny you should mention Partition Magic Ljoe, installing it, and then going into DOS to run it, was the last thing I did before encountering the login problem.Corrupt MBR sounds interesting.
Regards
Paul

Ah, you formatted too fast, Brad! All you have to do is boot off a floppy, and run "fdisk /MBR". This will re-write the Master Boot Disk on the primary disk, and solve your problems. It's detailed in the Microsoft Knowledge base article Q249321:
