Subject: I have a floppy, but it's Drive B.

Subject: I have a floppy, but it's Drive B.
OS: Win2K SP4
CPU/Ram: core 2 duo, 2G
Model/Manufacturer: self
Comment:
In a newly installed Win2K SP4 system, I have no floppy drive. When I found I needed one, I got a NEC USB drive. However, when I mount it, it appears as Drive B rather than A. Thus I can't use it for disk imagers, for example, which expect a floppy in Drive A. Drive A is a ghost in my system; it's always listed, tho nonexistant. How do I bring up the NEC as Drive A?

Try Bakers' idea.

[Not obvious why there's a letter A assign with no FDD.]

If no joy, try SUBST.

I just disabled "floppy disk drive" in Device Manager. The USB drive now reports in as Drive A. What's SUBST?
