i can't get a mouse to work with win2k???

I just installed win2k for the 2nd time on a computer because the 1st time i couldn't get the mouse to work. but still i cannot get it to work. its a ps/2 logitech optical mouse. i know power is getting to it, because the lights r on the mouse. but i don't even get a mouse cursor on my screen. i installed the mouse software but still nothing. i go to mouse properties in the control panel and it shows no mouse. i have used this mouse on another machine with win2k and it worked fine. what should i do? thanks, bill
