I had the following request made of me from a co-worker
Can you please have XXXX look into getting me an "http IP number"? This will
allow me to access XXXXX (company name)
e-mail from any computer in the World...Additionally,
there will be "no dial up costs" and I can take advantage of my 768kbps
cable access at home.Does anyone have any idea what this means??

Sounds like he is asking for a VPN product of some sort. I would consult with him to make sure you are clear on exactly what he is looking for. Too many times my users are asking for something "incorrectly" because they want to sound technical.
-=MF=-

The user wants a static IP so that they can setup Virtual Private Networking (VPN) on their office machine. Then they can access that machine through their internet connection at home. There are some security risks involved, so it all depends on how tight you like your network setup. If you give it to one person, then you sorta have to give it to anyone else who asks, and then before you know it you have a couple hundred people eating up your bandwidth by tunneling into their workstations at work. Most usually just setup access to a server and have the users go through it and authenticate so everything can be tracked. But again, it's however you have things setup......
Oh, and this has nothing to do with them being able to access new e-mails, it sets access to their own machine. E-mail will depend on what type of e-mail you are running (Exchange, Notes, etc). Many of the e-mail servers have web clients so that a user cna access their e-mail from anywhere through a website.....
