I need to know a simple way to uninstall Windows 2000. I have read some of the forms about uninstalling windows 2000, but i am very stupid, i didn't understand what they meant. Can someone please tell me how to uninstall it, in a way i can understand?
Thank You

FORMAT C:

if you have windows 98 on cd w/ a boot floppy USE IT and fdisk your drive if you went NTFS then creat a FAT32 partition and format it and then install windows

If your computer came with an Restore disk put that in your drive and reboot and read the instructions

I'm pretty sure all you have to do is reinstall Windows 9x on the hard drive, and choose to not dual-boot. Then delete the C:\Winnt folder. You don't need to format c: that is way too risky, and what do you do if you have a 10GB hard drive that has way too much data? In any case, I'm going to do this and then migrate those settings to win 2k.

Insert a WINDOWS 98 start up disk. Restart your computer. Start without CDROM support.
On the C: prompt, type FDISK, select DELETE NON DOS PARTITIONS and delete any non dos partitions......restart your computer with the floppy still inside and select START WITHOUT CDROM SUPORT and on the C: prompt type.. FORMAT C:
the mesage (ALL UNSAVED DATA WILL BE LOST....
Y OR N) type Y and ENTER....This will format your hard drive...After its done restart your computer with the floppy still inside and select WITH CDROM SUPPORT,insert WINDOWS98 disk and on the C: prompt, type D:, hit the enter key......on the d: prompt type....setup, hit the enter key.....it will look this way
C:/
D:/setup

THAT SHOULD DO IT

First, thanks to all of you who are assisting us novices. The volume of crys for help once again let's us know that once MicroS has you in its clutches it doesn't want to let go.

A positive for Win2000 is that it sees my removeable HD whereas my WinME does not. The advantage stops there as the Win2000 recycles after everyone start up, incessantly. Occasionally I get lucky and Win2000 actually allows me to do something productive but that is rare. Like Dabing Wang I'd prefer to reestablish WinME as my OS of choice and remove Windows 2000 Pro. All assistance is greatly appreciated.

Hate to bother the tech experts, but I too am having problems with unintalling W2K. I upgraded from 98 without a dual boot. Now, I would like to uninstall W2K and go reload 98. I booted to the W2K cdrom, deleted the partition where W2K was and created a FAT32, but my system will not boot up with the win 98 boot disk. It won't read. I have tried several disks. I formatted this disk in Windows XP and loaded the Win 98 files. I can't get anywhere. Any suggestions? Thanks to all. Everyone here should appreciate your help!

I attempted to install Windows 2000 Pro on a separate partition from my Windows 98 -- for a dual boot setup. Windows 2000 Pro failed because of hardward issues...nah, I didn't do the winnt32/checkupgradeonly which I probably should have before trying the Win2K install. There must be a way of uninstalling Win2K Pro without affecting my Windows 98. Win98 is on C: and I attempted the Win2K on D:. When I boot up I get the dual boot screen. So far I haven't read anything in this thread that is helpful...formatting C: is out of the question. All I want to do is get rid of Win2K...like leave no traces of it. Some links I've tried, as suggested within this thread, went no where. Any ideas?

Never mind. I formatted a floppy in A: with the /s switch to make it bootable and then copied the SYS.COM file from WINDOWS/COMMAND to the floppy. I then booted from the floppy and type SYS C: -- when that was completed I rebooted and WAH-LAH....right into Windows 98. I was able to delete everything on the D: partition from that point. End of story.

I ABSOLUTE HATE WIN 2K but can't get it off m machine. I have tried all of tbe above -- computer won't boot to "a" drive with win 98 boot disk; the setup screen does not even list floppy drive as a boot option. Will boot with gw restore CD but then just goes into win 2k setup. Tried to re-format with c:\f -- but does not recognize command. I only have one partition, and don't know how to make another. I kept FAT and did not convert to NTfT or whatever the other is called. Backed up everything I need and would like a nice new anything but win2k OS.

PLEASE HELP ME! Getting ready to throw computer out.
